Parts of Speech atau lebih sederhananya klasifikasi kata pembentuk kalimat harus diketahui terlebih dahulu sehingga bisa membedakan mana kata A, mana kata B. Kata dalam bahasa Inggris diklasifikasikan atau dibagi 8 bagian (part of speech), yaitu :
1. Noun (Kata Benda), contoh : pencil, London.
2. Pronoun (Kata Ganti), contoh : he, she, it.
3. Adjective (Kata Sifat), contoh : black, good, beautiful.
4. Verb (Kata Kerja), contoh : write, bark, eat.
5. Adverb (Kata Keterangan), contoh : loudly, verry, too.
6. Preposition (Kata Depan), contoh : in, on, at.
7. Conjuction (Kata Hubung), contoh : and, but.
8. Interjection (Kata Seru), contoh : Oh! Hello! Hurrah!
